Kai Sovereignty

What we’ll do

  • Protect Māori food systems (including seed sovereignty, rejecting GE foods, and upholding WAI262).
  • Establish a Māori Kai Sovereignty Board to oversee kai justice.
  • Invest in community food systems (including māra kai and food farms).
  • Support rangatahi into food and primary industries.
  • Invest in regenerative Māori agriculture.
  • Break corporate control by supporting Māori-owned supermarkets and protecting local kai sellers.
  • Reduce grocery costs (including removing GST from kai and regulating supermarket price hikes).
  • Increase access to land for food production.

Why it matters

Aotearoa produces more than enough kai, but too many whānau go without. Food insecurity is a system failure — kai should be affordable, healthy, and connected to whenua and whakapapa.
