Luxon survives today, but he will not survive November 7
Today’s National Party caucus meeting may have saved Christopher Luxon’s job, but it has not solved National’s deeper problem. This government is consumed by its own survival while whānau are left to carry the cost.
For days, New Zealanders have watched a governing party turn inward while families face rising costs, job losses and an economy going backwards.
“Luxon may have kept the job, but National has lost the country’s confidence,” said Te Pāti Māori Co-Leader, Rawiri Waititi.
“This Government is distracted by its own political survival when it should be focused on the needs of whānau. National’s credibility is gone. They’ve lost control, lost credibility, and lost touch with the people it was elected to serve..”
“Christopher Luxon’s legacy will be leading the most anti-Māori, anti-worker, and anti-environment government Aotearoa has ever seen. His party may like him but his country doesn’t, and he will not be here November 7th, ” said Te Pāti Māori Co-Leader, Debbie Ngarewa-Packer.
”The pain this government has inflicted on our communities and our taiao will be felt for generations”
“Aotearoa cannot afford another term of this government. If we do not change the government, poverty and the environmental desecration will be entrenched as a normal part of life in Aotearoa” said Waititi.
Today’s outcome may draw a line under the speculation inside National, but it does not restore public confidence in a government increasingly disconnected from the realities facing everyday people. Te Pāti Māori is determined to get rid of this government come November 7.
